Join Us for a Momentous Occasion: The Dedication of a New Sefer Torah

For the first time in nearly a decade, the Jewish community of Ottawa is excited to dedicate a brand new Sefer Torah! This special Torah scroll will be dedicated on February 16th 2025, in honour of Dr. Joseph Caytak’s 70th birthday, a milestone celebrated by his children, grandchildren, friends, and community members.

Dr. Joseph and Devora Caytak have been pillars of the Ottawa Jewish community for nearly four decades, founding the Jewish Youth Library, which has touched the lives of thousands. With 12 children who live across the globe, the Caytak family has left a lasting legacy of kindness, knowledge, and Jewish values.

The new Torah scroll will be used regularly by the "Family Shul" at Chabad of Wellington West, Ottawa and we invite you to take part in this historic occasion by dedicating a part of the Torah.

Dedication Opportunities

Dedicating part of a Sefer Torah is an everlasting honour, bringing new merit and blessings every time it is read. Whether through dedicating a letter, word, or chapter, your contribution will be forever tied to the Torah. A beautiful certificate will be provided for all dedications, and your family members (parents, children, grandparents, etc.) can also be included on the certificate.

For dedications of $180 or more, you will have the unique opportunity to assist the Sofer (scribe) in writing a letter in the new Torah scroll an extraordinary and rare experience, and in addition your name will be displayed on a beautiful permanent plaque that will be on the wall of the Family Shul in Chabad of Wellington West.

Choose one that you connects with you most.)Aliya- $540 (Endow an Aliyah for yourself or a friend. The Crown- $7,200 (The exquisite crown will adorn the Torah each time it is removed from the Holy Ark. The dedication of your choice will be permanently inscribed on the silver crown.) - (Reserved!)Atzei Chayim (Torah handles)- $3,600 (Dedicate the silver plate of the Torah’s ornamental rollers engraved with your family name. 2 available.)Pointer- $1,800 (Dedicate the beautiful sterling silver pointer with your family name engraved on it.)Belt- $1,000 (Dedicate the velvet belt which is used to wrap the Torah when we finish reading it.)
